What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is a different way of being smart. Simply speaking, emotional intelligence is the ability to identify, use and understand your emotions in a constructive and positive manner. Emotional intelligence refers to four core areas:
The emotionally intelligent leader is competent in all of the four areas.  Without emotional intelligence and social effectiveness, leadership careers face derailment.  Leading with emotional intelligence can boost a leader's career. • Dr. Helen Bryant’s career as an educator in diverse institutions, and her distinguished work on Emotional Intelligence reminds us, and for some gives the new and needed insight, that intelligence and raw intellect alone, although greatly needed, are not the whole story or only tools in the box.   Dr. Bryant has shown that EI produces a more secure and yet more empathetic, effective, and self-aware leader with social skills that foster collaboration and achievement.  Dr Bryant reminds us that the responsibilities of leading with regard to the emotional dignity and well-being of those we serve can be the key both to discerning underlying issues, making positive differences and moving toward the successes we yearn to see.  I have been blessed to learn and benefit greatly from her professionalism and spirituality.
